Derek heard something coming from Keira's mouth, but it was so quiet that he wasn't able to hear anything more than just a muttering. It was then that it dawned on him that she was probably reading his thoughts, whether she wanted to or not, and so she knew everything that he had left out of the conversation because he didn't want to say it, or whatever reason he hadn't said it, it didn't matter because she knew. Shaking his head, he kept his gaze straight at her.
But her next comment slightly confused Derek. She had been so gung-ho this entire time on making sure that he knew how badly their mother had been doing lately, then just out of the blue she apologized. And for some reason, Derek wasn't sure that it was even in context to what they had been talking about the entire time. It just didn't seem like Keira would that readily apologize for saying those things about their mom after this whole conversation about how mad at her she was. Derek was good at persuading people at times, but he really didn't think that he had gotten to Keira in that way, and so he wanted to know what did get to her.
Lifting one eyebrow in question, Derek pressed on to the question that he quickly formed while he asked it. "What do you mean sorry? I'm not the one you should be apologizing too," he said, keeping his eyebrow lifted the entire time. The first part he asked for an explanation, but in the second part he just kind of assumed that she meant it about their mother. Even though he wasn't quite sure that she did. So he had set her up for options on either end.

Keira was surprised the way Derek kept his gaze straight at her when he knew very well she could read his mind. It only showed how accustomed to many types of magic he was. Maybe he didn't consider it invading his privacy but instead realised she probably couldn't control it. She hoped so- she didn't want everyone accusing her of something that wasn't her fault.
When he got confused on her meaning she couldn't help but laugh. Something about the situation struck her as amusing. "I'm apologising for complaining whole time while you've been in worse situations on the topic," she said once she was capable of her voice sounding serious again. She didn't want to sound as if she thought that funny.

Derek couldn't help but smile now. Throughout their entire conversation, Keira had never once seemed happy in the least, not until now that is. And so even though she was laughing at him not understanding, it didn't matter because she was at least finding something funny. And honestly, that meant more to him than being made fun of, which he didn't think that she was doing anyway. Everyone in their family could understand how easy it could be to misunderstand each other.
"Got it," he said, keeping the smile on his face showing that he had not taken offence or anything of the sort to what she had said. "Well it's okay," he said. "I just think that you and mom need to talk about this. You obviously have some issue's with how she is doing things lately, and you should calmly talk to her about them. It's the only way that they will truly clear it up for you."

Keira felt a warm glow inside of her when she heard Derek's thoughts, and immediately felt a rush of guilt about what she had said about him and Natalie being a mistake. She tried to ignore it. "I wasn't making fun of you," she assured him, forgetting for as she always did that he hadn't said it out loud. "And you don't need to smile to make sure I don't take of offense," she added.
"Talk to her about it?" Was he serious? "Oh come on...do you know me at all?" Well maybe she wasn't the same way in the future but after an argument or an uncomfortable end to a conversation she never was the one to talk first. Call it cowardice- maybe it was, but it was just the way she was.

Derek felt the smile return to his face quickly. Sometimes it wasn't necessarily a bad thing that Keira could read minds. Like in situations like this when he was thinking things that he wouldn't have said because they didn't seem to hold a great deal of importance, but then when Keira responded it was something that felt good to hear her say, so it was a good thing that she knew what he was thinking because then those little, unsaid things can be heard without having to be said.
"Keira, you know how important this is. You can't just let it go without clearing up," he said, letting out a small sigh. He dropped his gaze for a moment, but then immediately brought it back up to meet with her eyes. "If you just leave it in an arguement, the bad feelings will build up again, and you won't be able to talk how calm you are now, and thinking clearly like this. I really think that you should talk to her," he said, shrugging. It was true, he really thought that she should talk to her, and just to make sure that she knew that, he kept thinking it over and over, so that she would read his mind and that would be all that she would hear. Keira couldn't help but let a true smile cross her face when Derek said...well, thought that there was a good part to her having telepathy. No one else had regarded it that way, and it meant a lot to her that Derek did after the insults she had spoken to him earlier. Well thankfully that was over now.
"I'll never think clearly anymore," was the first thing she said once Derek had finished speaking. Telepathy didn't leave much room for her thoughts. She could hear the thoughts of everyone below them currently on Golden Gate Bridge and even further than that. It was only because Derek was closer that she could hear his more clearly, while the rest was like the continuous talking of a large crowd at some big festival.
She sighed as Derek kept thinking over and over that she should talk to Phoebe to resolve everything. "You're going to give me a headache..." she complained. "And just so you know it's not all i can hear...it's just the clearest thing I can hear- everyone else is in the background," she explained, trying and hoping she would divert Derek from the topic of their mother.

Derek felt the smile spring back to his face when Keira began complaining about his thoughts. He knew that she would, and he had to try his best to hold the smile back until she had said something about it, he knew that it wouldn't take long because she would quickly get annoyed of hearing the same thing over and over again. Especially since it was something that she didn't want to do at all, and so now that she had finally noticed, it was funny to Derek. And although it annoyed Keira, he had hoped that she would find it at least a little bit funny too.
The smile remained on his face as he slowly shook his head. "Exactly, mine is the clearest, so you can still hear it above the rest. So I am still getting my point across," he said, forcing his smile to grow even more in size to show him over-emphasizing the fact that he really did think that she needed to talk to their mother. "Derek that's not funny!" she said, but she couldn't help smiling, which clearly displayed what she really thought. She was really bad at hiding her feelings, but hey she was a cupid and she doubted cupid's concealed their real feelings. From the little voices, one grew louder than all the rest- even louder than her brother's. It could only mean that it was one of her charges. Well two actually, that she had put together and they were arguing. Her smile vanished now. That had never happened before.
When a Cupid brought two people together with their ring, depending on how they did it the people normally fell in love and things went from there. This was the first time she had heard of this happening, especially to her. She was fairly know at it but experience meant nothing to her when it came to things like that. She knew she was good at being a cupid. "Something's wrong."

Derek was happy that Keira found it funny too, whether or not she wanted to believe it herself. Her true feelings could be seen through the smile on her face, no matter how much she denied. But the quickness that her smile disappeared somewhat alarmed Derek. Typically, smiles would just slowly fade away, but hers darted off her face like it had seen a ghost. His heart started beating quicker, and he was getting nervous, when he was about to ask what was wrong, Keira finally spoke. "What do you mean? What's wrong?" He said. He quickly jumped to his feet, and began pacing. He couldn't wait for Keira to tell him, it sounded important and they needed act quickly. But he always had been one to act quickly without thinking it through too much.

"How am I supposed to know!" she said, not really concentrating on his words. A few seconds later she realised her error though. "Well I do know...I'm sorry, it's just distracting," she said, trying to ignore the arguing voices in her head. She hated being able to hear what her charges were thinking no matter how far they were, similar to a whitelighter. Well if she couldn't, how would she know when they called her?
"Two of the people I put together...they're arguing. But both of them hate conflict, and they already liked each other I just made them face it. I can't believe they're arguing so harshly!" Small arguments, maybe but this one sounded serious.
